Novelty 2026: Powerful Performance in Shunting Service – Class V 90
The V 90 is a medium-duty, diesel-hydraulic shunting and switching locomotive of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, designed for demanding tasks on the tracks. As an original development of the V 100, MaK (Maschinenbau Kiel) created a completely new design: longer, more robust, and more powerful. The first 20 pre-series locomotives were delivered in 1964/65, and from 1966 series production followed with the proven MTU 12V engine and a top speed of 80 km/h. Over the decades, the V 90 proved versatile: from the original purple livery to ocean blue-beige and today’s traffic red design. Equipped with modern remote control, it was further developed into Class 294 – an important step in increasing efficiency in shunting operations. Today, the class forms the backbone of DB Cargo’s wagonload traffic. The locomotives shunt freight trains across Germany, pick up wagons from industrial sidings, and ensure smooth operations in marshalling yards.
Equipped with Behr dual fans | With roof antenna, whistles, and extra attached wind deflectors | Fine handrails and steps | Illuminated control panel | With buffer sleeves and buffer handles, lubrication and sandboxes | In digital operation with switchable cab lighting | Brake hoses and coupling hooks included
