Novelty 2026: With the Vectron Dual Mode, Siemens Mobility presented a dual-power locomotive in 2019 that features both a diesel engine and a high-voltage system for drawing power from overhead lines. This allows the locomotives to operate independently of the catenary and be used more flexibly and resource-efficiently across their entire range of operations. Siemens offers the locomotives in two variants: the Vectron Dual Mode, designated as BR 248 in Germany, and the Vectron Dual Mode Light, designated as BR 249.
