""Novelty 2026: Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS 1 for Model Railways, Diesel Railcar for Regional Passenger Transport
The Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS 1 is a diesel railcar for regional passenger transport, widely recognized for its versatility and distinctive design with trapezoidal window bands. In Germany, these vehicles are classified as Class 650 and continue to shape regional traffic for numerous railway companies. Development began in 1994 at the VÚKV Rail Vehicle Research Institute in Prague on behalf of ABB Henschel and AEG Rail Vehicles. After the merger of both companies in 1996, the project was continued by Adtranz. With Adtranz""s acquisition by Bombardier Transportation in 2001, production was transferred to Stadler Rail. The first series vehicles were delivered in 1996 – including four railcars with a floor height of 760 mm, which have been reliably operating on the Schönbuchbahn ever since. Deutsche Bahn commissioned a total of 79 Regio-Shuttle units in 1999. With over 450 vehicles built, the RS 1 stands as a symbol of reliability, efficiency, and modular engineering excellence in modern regional passenger transport.
