GER:~Sound E-Lok 144 188 DB IV

The E 44 series was the first German electric locomotive of which more than 100 were built and is considered a milestone in the development of electric locomotives, as it was the first larger mainline locomotive to dispense with running axles and use the proven axle-hung motor drive. As a universal locomotive, it was robust, reliable, and shaped electric train operations in southern and central Germany from the 1930s to the 1980s. In 1963, the converted E 44 188 was put into service. It was based on the Höllentalbahn locomotive E 244 11 and differed externally from the series locomotives in that it had two enlarged front windows, double-nozzle ventilation grilles, sliding windows, differently positioned doors, an extended roof, and new DBS 54 pantographs.
