Novelty 2025: With the start of direct current electrification of the Italian railway network in the late 1920s, the Italian State Railways needed new, powerful electric locomotives. As a further development of the E.326, the high-performance E.428 locomotives were created, of which a total of 242 units were produced between 1934 and 1943. Over the course of time, the area of use of these universally deployed machines extended across the entire peninsula. The locomotives are typically divided into three series. The first 122 machines had a central superstructure with two front ends. This was followed by the second, semi-aerodynamic series and the third, aerodynamic series.
