Novelty 2026: In 2019, Siemens Mobility introduced the Vectron Dual Mode, a dual-power locomotive equipped with both a diesel engine and a high-voltage system for drawing power from overhead lines. This allows the locomotives to operate independently of the catenary, providing greater flexibility and resource efficiency across their entire range of operations. Siemens offers the locomotives in two variants: the Vectron Dual Mode, designated as BR 248 in Germany, and the Vectron Dual Mode Light, designated as BR 249.
